The Brave Little Viking
The smallest boy in Ravnfjord. The biggest journey of his life.
About the book
Yonni is eight summers old and the smallest boy in his village, better with a carving knife than a sword. When the Jarl’s granddaughter falls ill, it is Yonni who must travel three days through the forest to fetch the healer, with only his cat Fen for company.
In the Viking village of Ravnfjord, everyone seems to know what makes a hero: size, strength and a loud voice. Yonni has none of those. What he has are clever hands, sharp eyes and a mind that notices things. When little Solveig falls sick with a fever and the only healer lives far away in Elkhaven, Yonni’s father volunteers him for the journey. Along the way he meets a wise völva and her three cats, hears tales of Odin and the Nine Worlds by firelight, and comes to a river with no bridge. Every challenge asks for patience and careful thinking rather than muscle. Written and illustrated by JC for readers aged 7 to 12, this is a warm adventure about the kind of courage that does not shout, and about discovering that you are enough just as you are.
